Animals
Touchdown In Top Super Bowl Ads
It comes as no surprise that animals dominated Super Bowl commercials yet again this year. With a Budweiser commercial that made everyone’s hearts melt to a hilarious Doritos commercial starring a snack-loving goat, the Baltimore Ravens weren’t the only animals winning this past weekend.
Being the first Super Bowl to take place since all of the top 10 advertising agencies in the U.S. agreed not to use great apes in their ads, not one of this year’s commercials featured chimpanzees or other great apes. In addition, many commercials used computer-generated imagery CGI to portray other exotic animals.
Here is just one example of this year’s favorites:
Budweiser — The Clydesdales: “Brotherhood”
Hands down, one of the most memorable ads that premiered during this year’s Super Bowl was the Budweiser commercial featuring their iconic Clydesdales horses who have been associated with the company since 1933. But did this commercial remind anyone of the Christian the lion video from a few years back ?
The ad chronicles the close, lifelong relationship between a Clydesdale horse and the horse’s trainer, causing viewers to reflect on every friendship they’ve ever had with an animal. Audiences across the nation struggled to hold back their tears as they listened to the moving voice of Stevie Nicks singing Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.”
The heartwarming commercial introduces the company’s newest foal, who was just seven days old during the shoot. Born at the company’s Clydesdale ranch in mid-Missouri, the newborn star generated more than 60,000 tweets, Facebook comments, and other social media buzz in an Anheuser-Busch contest to find a new name for the foal: Hope. How appropriate!
Super Bowl ads reflect a broader truism in advertising: A cute animal is a better pitchman than a human 9 times in 10 !!!!
